Unlike traditional systems that display static speedometers or simple icons floating fixed distance ahead, AR-HUDs project dynamic elements that optically fuse with the external environment. As autonomous driving technologies progress through Levels 2+ and 3, AR-HUD windshields will serve as a primary trust-building interface between driver and vehicle. By explicitly displaying what autonomous sensors perceive—such as tracked lane markers or monitored surrounding traffic—AR-HUDs provide drivers with clear visibility into automated vehicle actions.
