Research is also underway into novel inhaled formulations of biologics, which could replace systemic injections with localized pulmonary delivery.

Looking forward, the integration of biomarker testing into routine clinical practice is driving a transition toward personalized respiratory care. By identifying specific inflammatory signatures in blood or sputum samples, clinicians can select the precise anti-inflammatory drug mechanism most likely to benefit individual patients. This targeted approach promises to reduce healthcare expenditure, prevent severe pulmonary exacerbations, and significantly enhance the long-term quality of life for patients with severe respiratory illness.
